Description:
The Intermediate School District 917 PACES program provides special education services for students with autism spectrum disorders and developmental cognitive disabilities. Services are provided in classroom settings located within regular elementary and secondary schools in Dakota County as well as a store front location. Students participate in mainstream classes and school activities as determined by their IEPs. The program provides individualized instruction with a high degree of staff support and opportunities for each student to achieve his or her maximum level of independence. The curriculum focuses on functional academics, communication, social skills, independent living, community participation, vocational preparation, and recreation and leisure. Assistive technology is utilized throughout all program components.
Support Services:
Specialized services are available to meet the individual education needs of each learner in the PACES program. Related service teachers and therapists provide expertise in fine and gross motor development, occupational therapy, speech and language, behavior management, psychology, assistive technology, and autism spectrum disorders. An Intermediate School District 917 licensed school nurse consults with classroom teachers as needed.
